Roots Learn

Empowering the next generation

In 2025, with renewed support through a private grant of $9,729, the program expanded to fund 64 students from 40 Roots families, reflecting the commitments and personal mission - educating their children.

Alongside their studies, the students take part in Mind-Body workshops and group sessions led by Roots-trained facilitators, equipping them with tools to manage stress, heal from inherited trauma, and build resilience. This dual approach ensures that learning is not only academic but also emotional and psychological, empowering the next generation to carry both knowledge and healing into their futures.

Through Roots Learn, education and healing work hand in hand, investing in young people who will become leaders who are trauma-informed and become creators of stronger, united and healthier communities.

Empowering the next generation

At Roots, education is not only a tool for knowledge but a path to healing, resilience, and empowerment opens futures strengthening families and communities for generations to come.

With a start-up grant from the IBU Foundation, matched by ROOTS of South Sudan, the Roots Learn scholarship program was launched in February 2024. Thirty-six students - 19 girls and 17 boys, all children or relatives of Roots women received a year’s tuition at secondary schools in Juba. For families facing immense economic hardship, these scholarships, averaging $150 per student, meant the difference between their children continuing education or staying at home.
